Harmonisation of Benefits

When two businesses with different terms and conditions merge, or when a business grows sufficiently, pay and benefit arrangements will need to be reviewed. Where integration and common practice is identified as a business need, there will be a requirement to harmonise terms, including benefit arrangements. One solution is to simply move towards a single set of terms for everyone. Sometimes, however, you do want to have other choices, perhaps for more senior staff, perhaps for just the sales team. Harmonisation will often lead to increased costs but integrating benefits can offset some of this helping make you a more attractive employer in a more cost effective way. There are a range of options that can help you keep control of your costs yet let you stand out as an employer.

  • Establishing the business case and then leading the programme to harmonise terms and conditions following acquisition and mergers
  • Introducing insured benefits pooling where employees were in more than one country
  • Migrating benefits from out-sourced procurement to an in-house captive insurer
  • Negotiating revised benefit arrangements with unions
  • Establishing standard benefits linked to new grading structure
